The Maryland traffic lawyers of the Law Offices of Richard P. Arnold provide tough defense against driving-related offenses. Conviction of these charges can have serious consequences on your freedom, your driver’s license, and your insurance rates. Contact an experienced traffic offense attorney to protect your rights.

Types of Traffic Offenses

In Maryland, traffic offenses are divided into two categories. Non-incarcerable offenses are those not punishable by a jail sentence, such as most speeding violations. Incarcerable offenses can be punished with jail time. One of the most commonly prosecuted offenses is driving under the influence. Some of the other most common violations include:

  • Driving with a revoked or suspended license
  • Manslaughter by automobile
  • Fraudulent use of a license
  • Driving without insurance
  • Negligent or reckless driving
  • Leaving the scene of an accident (hit-and-run)

Maryland Traffic Lawyers for Major Offenses

If you are accused of a serious offense, you must appear in court, even if you intend to plead guilty. If you fail to appear, the court may issue a warrant for your arrest. The punishment for serious offenses can include jail terms, fines, and driving restrictions, as well as additional points on your license. Your insurance company will also use a serious offense conviction as an excuse to increase your premiums for a considerable period of time or to cancel your coverage.

The Law Office of Richard P. Arnold offers decades of experience in the trial procedures relating to traffic offenses, from speeding tickets to vehicular homicide. Mr. Arnold has practiced law for 35 years, including over 14 years of experience as a former state prosecutor, and will mount an aggressive defense.

Representation for Minor Offenses

Maryland tracks all moving traffic violations on a point system, and the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) may suspend your license for accumulation of points. Paying the fine without appearing in Court, (which is allowed in the non-incarcerable cases), is also an admission of guilt, and your insurance premiums may go up significantly or your insurance could be terminated as a result. However, ignoring a non-incarcerable violation can result in suspension of your license, and driving with a suspended license is punishable by jail and fines and an additional point total.

Many people simply pay the fine in order to avoid the hassle of appearing in court, whether they believe they are guilty or not. However, the Law Offices of Richard P. Arnold can challenge minor violations on many grounds. If you choose to contest the ticket, you must appear in court as ordered.

In addition to fighting incarcerable and non-incarcerable traffic charges, we represent clients in seeking license reinstatement after suspension. You can arrange a free initial consultation with our office by calling (301) 850-4663 or any of our alternate phone numbers, or contact our Maryland traffic lawyers by email.
